Well, I expected it to be good, else I wouldn't have made it my first watch of the new year, but what I didn't expect was that it would be It's a Wonderful Life, only without the annoyingly gender-conventional undermining of the spirit of adventure--this version provides two much more satisfactory channelings of that spirit.That said, apart from an opening and a close that provide genuine transport, it's no more than pretty good Pixar entertainment.
