What a genuinely bizarre film, whose conceit is that people in 1183 are blessed/cursed with a thoroughly modern awareness that they're savages living in a dark age. It's mostly a vehicle (
excuse might be a more accurate term) for
O'Toole and
Hepburn to play Albee's George and Martha in medieval drag, and they seem to have lots of fun doing it.
