Monomaniacal explorer neglects loving family but finds what he's looking for in the end. Wanted to love this, but could barely stay awake. I've been told the final shot is brilliant, but I barely remember it.

"I've been told the final shot is brilliant." That was by me! And it is. The movie is well worth the 2+ hour run-time for this one shot. Well, much of the rest of the movie works well too. But that last shot is something special.
