Shadow of a Doubt
(1943)
Hitchcock's favorite Hitchcock film is not mine, but I certainly have a much fuller appreciation of it--and of Teresa Wright, who is not the callow little simp I remembered--this time around than the last. Unusual maintenance of suspense in a context where you can't be altogether certain of what you're in suspense of.Wonderfully fey performance by Hume Cronyn, whose persistent uninvited appearances in the Newton household have a useful payoff.
