Yeah, I confess: the immediate trigger for watching this was the gushing piece by Taffy Brodesser-Akner in the Times Magazine recently crowning Tom Cruise our best action star. But it had been on my radar for a while, and I'm glad to confirm that it remains my second-favorite film based on a Philip K. Dick story. And seriously, Samantha Morton's performance, limited by her character's inability to move on her own? One of the best of her splendid career.

But Brodesser-Akner is right about one thing. Cruise's Chief John Anderton says "Everybody runs," but nobody runs like Cruise.
